This Arabic ney is so similar to the Bulgarian- Macedonian-Serbian kaval, but still a bit different (6 holes instead of 7, and the left thumb hole is a bit further away, which will require some additional mastering). I am so glad that I will learn how to play the Arabic "cousin" of kaval!
My first nay, learned to play kurt maqam on it quite soon. I can definitely recommend it to a beginner like myself.
Tuning is very good also and melodies are getting more in tune as I'm improving my embouchure.
To me, the bore could be just a little bit wider for this length, to have mellower and fuller sound, that's why I now ordered B nay from Ahmad Abd El Ghani. But this is a matter of individual taste.
A good and cheep ney. It sounds better everytime I oil it. But if you got the money, go for the premium ney by Nuda.
1. Cane is very well picked and cleaned, it's wide and even.
2. Tuning is very good, no problems.
3. Looks nice, has a small curvature though, but it doesn't matter. I like copper wire rings.
Mine had a couple of small holes where nodes were cleaned. One was sealed with glue and other wasn't. I located and fixed it with glue quickly, but it might become a problem for a beginner player, not being able to produce certain notes properly.
Overall it's a very good instrument!
nice quality ney, in a rare tuning. Happy to find this one...
