This is by far the best darbuka I have ever played! It is the envy of all my friends. The fish skin has been prepared very well. Sometimes fish skin can have weak spots that are prone to splitting, but the piece that Hassan selected for this drum is of the highest quality. It has a beautiful texture that allows for some additional sounds that can be achieved by "scratching" the head gently. I live in a humid environment, and I find that to get the drum sounding its best, it is necessary to heat the skin a bit with a heating pad. So far, this has worked very well, and the results are worth the short wait for the skin to shrink a bit under some heat. All it usually takes is 5 minutes or less, after which, it holds it's tuning for the duration of a any song. I play many songs by Oum Kalthoum and Fairouz. This drum has the perfect voice for that music. There is simply no other darbuka that comes close! Thank you Hassan for this dream instrument!!
