I got a used and damaged Oud. It is very clear that it was used before especially from its neck, sides and back due to its friction with human body. Moreover, the paint quickly disappears from the oud.
As a beginner oud enthusiast, but a “chronic” (i.e., a long-timer, but standing still in my progress, due to a lack of sustained practice) “intermediate” guitar player, it is too early for me to have a worthwhile opinion! However, it has taken a very long time (extremely long!?) to tune this instrument, and to keep it in tune... THAT part of the experience has been very frustrating. But, the instrument sounds almost as good as what has prompted me in the first place to acquire one, after having had and enjoyed my guitars for over 40 years; perhaps in time this instrument shall prompt me to acquire an even better [i.e., more “expensive”] oud/lavta, etc.
