📌 Sombaty Plus Darbuka – FAQ

why sombaty plus darbuka?

SOMBATY PLUS DARBUKAS — DEEP DOOM. SHARP TAK.

Sombaty Plus is a range of Egyptian darbukas with a 9-inch (23 cm) drumhead, eight tuning pegs, and an open-bottom design. Deep Doom bass, sharp Tak strokes, and crisp slaps give these instruments their character—from practice at home to studio sessions, weddings, and haflas.

Compared with our 8.6-inch Solo darbukas, Sombaty Plus offers a larger playing surface and a heavier build. Models typically weigh 5.5–7 kg, depending on their construction and decoration. That substantial feel is part of the playing experience—and worth considering when choosing an instrument to carry between rehearsals and performances.

MOTHER-OF-PEARL DETAILS WORTH A CLOSER LOOK

Our mother-of-pearl Sombaty Plus models combine aluminum shells with intricate inlay work. Geometric patterns, contrasting colors, and the changing reflections of the shell give each design its own personality. Some patterns draw your eye from across the room; others reward a closer look.

Materials and finishes vary across the range. Check each product page for the construction, weight, and details of the individual model.

CHOOSING YOUR SOMBATY PLUS

Choose with your eyes and ears. Compare the designs, check the specifications, and listen to available sound demonstrations for the contrast between the low Doom and sharp Tak.

If you are moving from a smaller darbuka, consider both the larger head and the additional weight. If you already enjoy the Sombaty Plus size, focus on the finish and details you want in your next instrument.
