My Ney journey begins...

Arrived in good shape and good time. Great service.

I managed to get some notes out - with help from the YouTube tutorials - after only passing out twice before learning to control my breath!
Really excited to learn this and the "maqam" music system to add one of the worlds oldest wind instruments to my Saxes... one of the worlds newest!

easiest ney to play

I have plastic neys from sah nisfiye to kiz, and I find this bolahenk the easiest size to play.  My sound is very strong from low rast up into first notes of the third octave.  Notes requiring partial hole covering are easier to play than on longer neys, and manipulating the angle of the ney for different texture is also easy.  Probably an ideal size for beginner, but excellent for anyone of course.  The ney looks and sounds great.

Great for a beginner

The plastic neys are a great way to begin.  I had much less trouble getting a sound out of the plastic instruments than I did out of the cane instruments I had borrowed from a friend.  After a few days, even the fundamental (the low register) sounded, as well as the first and second harmonics (and in a few cases, the third harmonic).  I even had the audacity to show my western flute and recorder students how to get a sound out of a ney.  Definitely recommended!  Considering shipping to the United States (which would not be not cheap) was free,I felt  the price was reasonable.
