The story of this darbuka from Arab Instruments owner.
"When I was a child my mother had a fruit plate decorated with Blue flowers and made by an Armenian artist.
Today I am 46 years old and the same old plate is still there, at my Parents’ home with the unique blue blossom, barely scratched and ever so beautiful
And then it stroked me how wonderful it would be if a ceramic darbuka was made just the same: Armenian craft will be drawn at the same technique as my parents’ dish and this artwork will be perpetuated for more than 40 years."
This is a dohola ceramic darbuka (Great Bass) made by Arab Instruments. As always we bring you the best ceramic darbuka made by the best potter with experience of more than 50 years.
This model is one of our most special clay darbuka. We have chosen for this model white clay which produces very special sound and a goat skin on top. Building process: 1) The clay darbuka has been burned in the oven for more than 1200 Celsius. 2) Right after the burning process, the art work as been started by our Armenian artist who made a stunning hand made mosaic painting. The painting process is very complicated and combined ancient drawing Armenian methods. 3) After the painting has ended, the clay darbuka has been covered with a glaze layer and get back to the oven for the second burned. 4) Once the clay darbuka has finished the second burning (24 hours), we have installed the goat skin in a long process (takes one week) stretched it and tuned it. Our ceramic darbuka has superior sound quality. The darbuka comes with a first class darbuka case.
